The Greenstone Guide to Fun in Austin

LAKES, SWIMMING HOLES & WATER ACTIVITIES

Central Texas is all about the water. We've got lakes, rivers, creeks, springs, etc., and we know how to make good use of them! Austin's original name was "Waterloo" after all. During the summer months when it's blazing hot, everyone heads out to the water.

BLANCO RIVER STATE PARK

A nice swimming hole in Blanco.

BLUE HOLE IN WIMBERLEY

Nice swimming hole with rope swings in Wimberley.

DEEP EDDY POOL

Near downtown, the oldest public swimming pool in Texas.

EMMA LONG METROPOLITAN PARK

A very large park on Lake Austin. Very pretty, and has a sand beach swimming area.

Everyone must visit this place at least once! It is truly amazing. A giant 60ft waterfall with incredible flora and fauna.

KRAUSE SPRINGS

One of the best swimming holes in the area.

LAKE AUSTIN

A very scenic lake that runs through the west side of town.

LAKE TRAVIS

The best lake in all of Texas!

NEW BRAUNFELS - TUBING

The Mecca of river tubing is on the Comal and Guadalupe!

NUECES RIVER AREA

Excellent snorkeling and swimming spots!

PACE BEND PARK ON LAKE TRAVIS

6 miles of Lake Travis shoreline - absolutely the best park on the lake!

PEDERNALES FALLS

This is one of my favorite State Parks! It is totally awesome if you visit it after a recent thunderstorm when the falls are roaring. Every time you go, this park is different due to the changing water conditions.

"THE SLAB" ON THE LLANO RIVER

A free public swimming hole on the Llano River in Kingsland.

TOWN LAKE

Right in the middle of downtown. Very nice to look at and canoe in, but don't swim or fish in it - yuck!
