The Greenstone Guide to Austin & The Hil Country

WILD BASIN PRESERVE

ABOUT THE PLACE

Wild Basin is a nice little nature preserve with some scenic views. The hiking trail is about 2 miles if you do every branch of it, but don't bring your dog because pets are not allowed in. There is s small sign near the entrance saying that there is a $2 fee, but I've never seen anyone taking money anywhere, so as far as I can tell this place is free. For Halloween they put on the Haunted Trails event which is really fun. You go in groups in the darkness down the trail as actors appear and creep you out while you try to solve a puzzle. This isn't very secluded place since it borders on 360 and some residential areas, but it's still worth checking out at least once.

HOW TO GET THERE

Take 360 toward 2244 (Bee Caves Rd.). You'll see the brown park sign for Wild Basin Nature Preserve.
