ABOUT THE PLACEMcKinney Falls State Park is a nice park on the east side of Austin near the TPWD headquarters and the airport. This park has several miles of nicely maintained hiking trails, and it has some neat water features. The trails there are also very popular with bike riders. This isn't really one of my favorite parks, however, because I tend to like parks that are a little more rustic. This one is just a little too manicured for my tastes. Nonetheless, it's a nice place to take the family on a weekend for a picnic and a swim. The TPWD web site has more information.
HOW TO GET THERETake 71 East to 183 South. Go a few miles down and you'll see the signs directing you to the park on McKinney Falls Parkway.
