The Greenstone Guide to Austin & The Hil Country

THE BULL CREEK GREENBELT

There are basically 4 different parks in the Bull Creek Greenbelt, all somewhat connected by the trail system, and each has its uses. The whole Bull Creek area is without a doubt the nicest area in Austin. You'd have to go into the Hill Country to find a more scenic location. The four areas of the Bull Creek Greenbelt are:

BULL CREEK DISTRICT PARK

ABOUT THE PARK

This used to be the best dog park in all of Austin, but two bad things happen several years ago: 1) they made this leash-free park a leashed park, and they enforce it, and 2) a huge flood pretty much destroyed the place, and nobody seems to want to fix it. There used to be all sorts of beautiful things about this park, but the flood washed it all away, and it's hard to even cross it to get to the trails if there's any water there.

It consists a parking lot, a grassy running area up top, and then Bull Creek down below. There is a non-doggie part of the park just to the north. If you follow the trails here you can get to the Old Spicewood Springs section and the Preserve section.

HOW TO GET THERE

From 2222 and 360, head north on 360. The first stop light is Lakewood Dr. Take a right on Lakewood Dr. There are 3 entrances to the park here. The first entrance takes you to a dirt parking lot which has some nice falls. The 2nd entrance is the main entrance for the dog park and the best scenery. Go over the low water crossing to get to the third area where you can climb on the rocks.
